Background: The Giddapahar Tea Estate is located in the Kurseong district where the world-famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway runs past with scenic views of their tea gardens. Still owned and run by the original Shaw family since inception in 1881 it is a relatively small tea garden producing just 30 tonnes of high end tea per year. Giddapahar translates as Eagles Cliff and these picturesque mist-shrouded tea gardens feature a unique combination of traditional China bushes and areas of clonal bushes spread over 94 hectares.

This first flush offering from Giddapahar is a delightful high quality with a pure and refreshing flavour worthy of Darjeeling's title of producing the 'Champagne of teas'. At its best brewed with well filtered freshly drawn water. A great example of high quality Darjeeling tea.

Brewing guide: Darjeeling teas should always be drunk black (not with milk) to enjoy the aromatic qualities. In Darjeeling itself they use just 2 grams (1 level teaspoon) per 250ml mug @ 99C steeped for 5mins. This brings out the aromatics very well, but we find it a little 'thin'. So also try brewing 2.5g (1 heaped teaspoon) for no more than 2min30secs. This quality leaf definitely lasts 2-3 infusions. Also see brewing guide on our black tea page.
