Welcome to the Giddapahar tea gardens in the Kurseong district of Darjeeling, India!
Giddapahar translates as Eagles Cliff, a nod to the high elevation of 4500-5200ft that 94 hectares of tea gardens are spread over. Planted in 1881 and still owned by the original Shaw family it’s not surprising such long devotion and experience has lead to truly high quality teas. Located in the Kurseong area the picturesque tea gardens are overlooked by the world famous Darjeeling himalayan railway which runs past:
We’ve procured some memorable teas during the last 9 years, but this is the best Darjeeling 2nd Flush we’ve yet found! A delight to look at with large open bronzed leaves and fine silver tips, and it tastes really lovely too. Often Darjeeling teas can be an aquired taste, however this tea is very approachable for those not usually enamoured. The flavour profile has a lovely moreish honey sweet quality, a smooth mouthfeel and lingering complexity from delicate muscatel fruity notes.
This is not our first encounter with Giddapahar as we bought some superb first and second flush teas from them in 2013. They consistently impress us when we taste samples from this great producer. Having recently upgraded their machinery its even possible their teas are now better than ever. Long may it continue!
This limited edition micro-lot from Giddapahar Estate was picked and manufactured in May 2016, and you can find it in our shop here: Darjeeling 2nd Flush ‘Honey Musk’.
